True Finds secondhand store (3600 42nd Ave S)

True Finds, a secondhand clothing and accessories store, opens on Friday in the residential-commercial building on the corner of 42nd Avenue and 36th Street, across from Sanford Middle School.

It’s the passion project of neighborhood resident and lifelong thrifter Mary Laurel True and her partner Bob delMas. The shop will celebrate its grand opening Friday from 11-6 and Saturday from 11-5.

Quick history

Mary Laurel’s been thrifting since she was a kid in Massachusetts — “it was not in style then” — and has a roster of dozens of friends she actively shops on behalf of. Throughout her career in higher education she harbored dreams of opening her own store, and has taken just about every step short of it: She helped Pillsbury United Communities launch the Riverside Avenue nonprofit thrift store Sisterhood Boutique, organized rummage sales and wearable art shows all over town, and managed a large thrift store in Northfield.
