🚲 Aboard the Husky Bike Train
Tagging along with the gang of intrepid pedalers who ride to school every day — rain, shine, sleet or snow.
Wednesday is the fall “Bike, Walk, and Roll to School Day,” and across the city, scores of students will take to the streets for their daily commute. People will go all out with music and treats and dress. Cavalcades of merriment will be visible on the roads, bike paths, and social media feeds. If history’s any indicator, it should be an all-around great time.
The kids and parents of the Husky Bike Train will be among them, of course. But they’ll also be back on the street the next day, and the day after that. Most will be out the next time it’s gray and rainy, and a hearty subset will still be out there riding, months from now, in the cold and snow, walking into school rosy-cheeked and energized in their cartoon helmets and comically oversized backpacks.
I had the pleasure of tagging along with the gang of intrepid pedalers who ride to school every single day, to get a taste of the joy and chaos of the communal commute in preparation for Wednesday’s big event.
